January 27, 2012

With generous funding and support from Citi Community Development, ChildCareGroup provides exemplary business training for owners and directors of family child care homes and child development centers.

Through a proven small business training curriculum developed by the Kauffman Foundation specifically for child care businesses, we have equipped more than 450 participants with improved skills to enhance and grow their businesses since the program’s inception

During the Small Business Success course, participants attend seven 4-hour training sessions providing them with 28 clock hours of business specific topics including:

  • Writing a Business Plan
  • Pricing and Profitability
  • Financial Management
  • Banking for Small Businesses
  • Marketing and Advertising
  • Writing a Parent Handbook
  • Evaluating the Competitive Marketplace

Here is what participants had to say:

“I loved each of the trainers.  Providing free trainings to the child care workforce is imperative to the improvement of quality child care in our community.  Thank you!”

“This is a great program.  I know training in this area of child care is often put aside for new providers starting a business.  This class shows how important the process is to a profitable business.”

“This was really an awesome class, very informative and helpful.  There were a lot of suggestions we walked away with.  This was not just a way to get [required training] hours but it taught us how to start and be successful in our business.”

“This is a wonderful educational tool.  I have learned so much.  I feel confident in expanding my business.”

“This class was excellent and informative.  Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this training.  I learned a lot.”

“I believe that this program is excellent and is needed for those engaged in child care.  Your service is priceless.”

So much to be thankful for!

November 23, 2011

Tis the season of thanks. This blog is dedicated to recognizing the people who make our programs possible. We could not do it without you, and we would like to take a moment and share what we are thankful for.

We are thankful that…She is able to read and write!

Our Center Operations Program served 595 low income children through our six Head Start/Early Head Start Child Development Centers located throughout the Metroplex. We provided a quality early care and education program, medical and dental screenings, nutritious meals, mental health and special needs services at little or no cost to low income families.

We are thankful that…He is able to have healthy meals!

Our USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program served 990,914 meals to approximately 2,100 children in our centers and family child care homes in Dallas County, meeting two thirds of their nutritional requirements.

We are thankful that…She is able to keep her job!

Our Child Care Assistance Program recruited, vetted and enlisted 14,123 families for the child care subsidy program. As a contractor for Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, we placed 27,215 children in care, allowing their parents to be gainfully employed or to begin an accredited training program. We were awarded the subsidy contract for Southeast Texas, enabling us to serve an additional 2,500 children monthly.

We are thankful that…They are able to receive training and safely care for children.

Our Community Education and Training Program taught 4,222 Dallas County early childhood professionals the best practices for early care and education by providing 23,997 contact hours of training.

We are thankful that…They are able to prepare their daughter for school.

ChildCareGroup implemented several United Way funded initiatives. Born Learning enabled 80 parents to better prepare their children for entry into kindergarten. Our Resource and Referral Program provided 5,000 referrals to 536 families looking for child care; 21,539 families visited our online service,, to gain access to information on locating and choosing a child care program.

Without your support, none of this would be possible.
